Sassafras Tea (lyrics)
(The Band of Brothers)
Michael Scott Smith
Note from Michael: This song started out as a simple tribute to one of my favorite beverages, and then took a bit of a left turn as it addressed the importance of slowing down and savoring the moment. Hmmm... maybe a cup of tea would be just the thing right now?
It’s late in the afternoon - the sun’s rising high.
There’s nothing to do around here - and if there was, well, I wouldn’t try.
Taking my comforts - taking good care of me.
Sitting down in my easy chair - taking a sip of my Sassafras Tea.
Now, wouldn’t you know it? There goes the phone again!
It’s probably just another wrong number - or someone trying to sell me somethin’ I can’t even see.
Well, I’ve got the solution, how to cope with this insanity -
Just sit down in my easy chair - take a big sip of my Sassafras Tea.
It’s getting near evening - the sun’s going down.
I guess I should shake a leg - climb in my car and roll downtown.
Check out the city lights - all decked out in a tux and a tie.
But I’m sitting in my easy chair - taking a sip of my Sassafras Tea.
Now, wouldn’t you know it? Here comes my neighbor Jim.
He’s got the willies and the worries on his mind -
And the weight of the world putting pressure on his spine.
Well, I got the solution - I know how to set him free.
I’ll set him down in my easy chair - and give him a sip of my Sassafras Tea.
